Housings: everything you need to know about their types and functions.

Housings, which consist of a deep groove ball bearing and a cast iron housing in different shapes, are widely used in various industries such as agricultural equipment, construction machinery, packaging machinery, fans and so on. There are different types of housings available in the market, including sheet steel housings, plastic housings with a rust-resistant inner bearing and split bearing housings with a barrel bearing or self-aligning ball bearing.

Self-aligning housings are a common choice and are composed of a cast-iron housing with a spherical bore connection for a grease nipple and a grease-filled, double-sealed, single-row groove ball bearing with a convex outer ring. The advantage of self-aligning housings is that they can correct initial errors in shaft alignment and deflection because of their spherical outer ring and housing chamber.

Insert bearings
are another option that can be used for housings and are filled with a proper amount of lubricant and require practically no maintenance. They have a groove and two lubrication holes in the outer ring, so relubrication is always possible. These bearings are suitable for temperatures from -20°C to +100°C and have allowable misalignment for relubricated bearings up to ± 3°, for non-relubricated bearings up to ± 8° and for bearings with protective cover up to ± 1°.

The range of cast iron housings supplied by Neita is extensive and includes hanging housings, flange bearing blocks, pillow housings, insert bearings, tension housings and self-aligning housings. When installing cast iron bearings (housings, make sure that the locking bolts do not protrude through the inner ring and tighten the bearing housing after sliding the housings into the desired position.

It is recommended that a center point be made where the bolts touch the shaft for additional locking. It is important to tighten the bolts correctly. Too high a torque can cause deformation or even breakage, and too low a torque can cause the bolts to loosen. Therefore, always observe the manufacturer's tightening torques.

In short, housings are an important part of many different machines and equipment. Choosing the right kind of housings for your application is crucial to the proper operation and durability of your equipment.
